The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 27, when an ATV struck the victim at a baseball field in Yorktown located in Lakeside Park on Hunterbrook Road, according to Yorktown Police Chief Robert Noble.

According to Noble, witnesses told police that numerous people had been on ATVs and dirtbikes in the park when the victim was hit. The ATV's driver was also hospitalized as a result of the crash.

Authorities were later to find and possess the ATV used in the crash, and are also planning on charging the driver after he is released from the hospital, Noble said. The suspect, who is an adult, was not identified by police.

The victim of the crash remains hospitalized.

In a statement, Noble thanked witnesses who sent videos of the incident to police as they conducted their investigation into the crash. The department now plans to speak with everyone who was present at the ballpark at the time.

Yorktown Police also currently believe that several juveniles were riding ATVs and dirtbikes in the area of Hunterbrook Road on the day of the incident, and are encouraging their parents to speak with the department as they continue their investigation into the crash.
